People received appropriate support to maintain healthy nutrition and hydration. The service was meeting the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards . People were supported to make choices to have maximum control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible.

The home encourages an atmosphere of fun and inclusion and runs a weekly programme of events, which includes talks and demonstrations from local people willing to share their knowledge and talents. Located in a peaceful residential area of St Helens, Broadoak Manor is a friendly care home with 120 beds, that offers residential, nursing and dementia care. Across our different care homes and hospital, we consider ourselves expert in very specific areas of mental health and learning disabilities. The manager carried out a range of audits to ensure the service was effective and an action plan was developed from these.
Inspection ratings
Their role extends to maintaining the interior and outside space that Residents enjoy; we separately employ regular contractors who maintain lawns and borders. Food and nutrition represent an important part of a Residents care; lead by our Chef or Head Cook our catering teams ensure we deliver balanced and nutritious meals to meet the needs of elderly people. All meals are cooked on site in our own commercial standard kitchens. In each of our Nursing Care Homes we employ registered nurses to deliver professional nursing care to Residents with complex nursing needs. In our larger Care Homes the Care Home Manager is support by a Unit Manager or Head of Care; the type of person in this role will have significant experience and expertise in leading nursing and care teams. Eating is a social and an emotional experience, and our dining rooms are designed to create a relaxed and happy atmosphere, with menus that offer plenty of variety.

Staff knew how to keep people safe and risks to people’s safety and well-being were identified and managed. The provider operated robust recruitment processes which helped to ensure that staff employed to provide care and support for people were fit to do so. There were sufficient numbers of staff available to meet people’s care and support needs. The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and social care in England. It monitors and inspects services, to make sure they are safe, effective and provide high-quality care.
We have a commitment to develop, sustain and deliver an optimum level of care tailored to the individual needs of each client, in a safe and stimulating environment that reflects a home away from home. Broad Oak Manor has undergone a lot of change in the past few years. The people we spoke with all spoke favourably about the staff who work at the home.
Customer Care Team Arranging care can be stressful, we’re here to help. Based in Leeds, our Customer Care Team provides free advice and support whenever you need it. With sitting rooms, space for Residents to pursue their hobbies and interests and a lovely dining room, Broadoak Manor has a host of places in which to relax, dine, exercise, socialise and be creative. The pretty landscaped garden and patio is the perfect spot to spend time with friends and family, and is happily looked after by some of our Residents. The bright, comfortable bedrooms and living areas are all easily accessible by wheelchair. Here at Broad Oak Manor we look for the very best people to join us and whilst our management team are hands on, we work hard to empower our teams and allow their thoughts and opinions to be heard.
During our inspection we spoke with three of the 12 people who lived at the home and another person's relative. They said they felt safe at the home and trusted and liked the staff who provided their care. From the minute my came here they've checked with my and me and listened to what we've said.'We found that people's needs were assessed and care delivered in line with their individual care plans. We saw staff providing care and support to people living at the home.
Staff we spoke with were knowledgeable about people's individual requirements and how to support their needs. One person we spoke with told us, "I am very happy living here, I feel like the staff put me first and listen to what I would like, and I have no concerns what so ever with the quality of the care." The Care Quality Commission is England's health and social care services regulator. Broad Oak Manor is rated good, based on the level of care and safety at the home. During our inspection on 8 January 2013 we spoke with four people who lived at the home and the relatives of another person. All provided positive feedback about the service they, or their relative, received at Broad Oak Manor Nursing Home.People told us that they were involved in decisions about their care and treatment.

We saw that where shortfalls in the service were identified, action had been taken to make improvements. These were under review and further development to reflect better people’s likes, dislikes and preferences.

Often shifts are long but mean that you’ll have more days off – this doesn’t work for everyone but we will always try to accommodate an individuals’ requirements where we can. We found that people's care needs were met and that care was provided safely. CQC carried out an inspection of this care service on 30 April 2014 and 02 May 2014.
